Famous African Americans

There are many famous African Americans who are well know throughout the years. For starters we will discuss Martin Luther King Jr. He was born January 15, 1925 in Atlanta Georgia. Later on in life he married his wife who was named Coretta Scott. Soon there after they had three children together. Martin Luther King JR was known to be a Civil Rights leader and at the same time gave 208 speeches. He was later on assassinated April 4, 1968 at the age of 39.Mary McLeod Bethune was born on July 10, 1875.

Her parents name was Patsy and Samuel Bethune and she was there 15th child. All together her parents had 17 children. She later on became a teacher in 1895 and eventually married. During that time she had only one child. Other famous African Americans include Jackie Robinson. He is well known for being the first African American major league baseball player. Eventually he played for the Dodgers. Jackie Robinson was born January 31, 1919 and was named Jack Roosevelt. He eventually married and had three children. Harriet Tubman is also among the list of Famous African Americans. She was born in the 1820’s. Harriet escaped slavery in 1849.

Eventually she became the conductor of the Underground Railroad in 1850. During this time she helped 300 people escape to freedom, including her family such as her parents, sisters, and brothers. This is why she is called “The Moses of her People.” Last but not least, George Washington Carver was another famous African American. He finished high school at the age of 20. Later there after he attended Simpson College in Iowa. Eventually he taught agriculture at Tuskeegee Institute in the state of Alabama. George Washington carver is famous for finding 300 products that you can make out of peanuts. He made lots of money during this time and eventually died January 5, 1943.
